Create New Domain
This is where you specify the information needed to create a new
domain in VDM.
- Domain name
-
This is the DNS name of the domain. It will form the right-hand-side
of all mail addresses in the domain.
This field must be filled in.
- Organisation name
-
The name of the organisation that the domain is associated with.
This might be a company, or something more informal.
This field must be filled in, though it is only used for
"directory enquiries" purposes and does not affect mail handling in any way.
- Phone number
-
A phone number for contacting the organisation.
This field is optional: it is only used for "directory enquiries"
purposes.
- Postal address
-
The postal address for the organisation.
This field is optional: it is only used for "directory enquiries"
purposes.
- Postcode
-
The postcode for the organisation.
This field is optional: it is only used for "directory enquiries"
purposes.
- Owner/manager
-
Contact details for one or more people who are the owners or
managers of the domain.
This field is optional, but is very useful if there is a
problem with the domain and a VDM administrator needs to contact
the domain owner.
The data here is free text.
It is not used for directory enquiries purposes.
- Substitute domain
-
This field is normally blank.
If a domain name is filled in here, then any mail addresses that
are not matched by accounts in the domain are passed on to the
"substitute domain" with the left-hand-side of the address
unchanged.
This facility is normally only used where an organisation has
several domains and they want all domains to have identical
addresses in them.
The Submit changes button will send the information you
have filled in to the VDM system.
The Return link next to the button will return you to
the previous page without making any changes to the system
(you may also use the browser's own back button).
